A historical account of Robert Moore Gleason’s service in the U.S. Military Liaison Mission in East Germany, documenting uniformed American officers who operated behind the Iron Curtain observing Soviet and Warsaw Pact military activity.
Their work combined diplomacy, reconnaissance, fieldcraft and military analysis. They photographed equipment, tracked troop movements, observed exercises and helped provide early warning of Warsaw Pact readiness during one of the most tense periods in modern military history.
