Different worlds. The same standard of excellence.
Sir Alex Ferguson built Manchester United into a dynasty not through tactics, but through standards. Every player knew what was expected – how to show up, train, and carry the badge. The details mattered: clean lockers, punctuality, humility, effort. Those small acts built something much larger than a team. They built belonging.
Ritz-Carlton does the same thing, just in a different uniform. Every employee carries a Credo Card and begins each shift with a lineup, not unlike a pre-match talk. They rehearse service the way elite teams rehearse movement, until excellence feels natural.
Both teach the same lesson I explore in The Standard Is the Strategy: greatness is engineered through habits, not hype. Systems sustain what slogans cannot.
Whether on the pitch or in the lobby, culture is not declared – it is designed.
The best teams in the world do not rise to the occasion; they rise to their standard.
